As a comic book icon, do you feel any responsability to be a spokesman for the medium?
If they want a spokesman, they should find somebody who is perhaps not as embittered as I am. [Laughs] Probably one of the best things that could happen for the medium is if the industry were to suffer a catastrophic decline. This is probably why it's not a good idea to have me as a spokesman for the industry, since the best thing I can suggest for it is a kind of an insurance fire; burn it to the ground and then there might be some good, clean, nitrogen-rich earth in which shoots of new creativity could spring up. Most of the stuff that's happening in comics, it's happening on the margins, in minicomics and independent comics, and God bless them, because that's the only place where the real energy ever really comes from. That's where you meet a nicer class of people. [Laughs]
